Marshals and Volunteers
The Merchant Taylors'
Triathlon could not have been possible without the invaluable
support of a team of highly enthusiastic and reliable marshals.
Many of them have already volunteered to be part of this outstanding
team again this year. THANK YOU
In our efforts to ensure
an always safer and more memorable experience for all triathletes
partaking, we would like to hear from positive and dependable
people who are willing to assist on 16th May.
It will be an early start but a rewarding one on a late Spring
morning! Enjoy the team spirit and electrifying atmoshpere, be
inspired from watching triathletes striving for their best performance
or new entrants fulfilling personal goals, receive a high technical
T-Shirt as a memento and, more importantly, take pride in supporting
the work of Amnesty International. All for a few hours of your
time on a Sunday morning!
Roles involve setting
up the event, marshalling the bike and run course, helping supervise
the transition area, manning the drink stations and more... Please
contact the Event Team at events@triathlon-zone.com
NOW to register your interest. Why not volunteer
with a friend/friends?
Here
are but a few extracts from emails received from triathletes competing
in the first and second MTT:
'Thanks
for such an awesome event on Sunday, great way to start the tri
season. All officials, registration staff were great.
Thanks again.'
'...It
was a fantastic day - a really beautiful course and a great atmosphere.
Thanks to those involved.'
'Just a quick note to congratulate you on yesterdays event. You
did a
great job in organising - including the weather!. Race was well
marshalled and very friendly.
Congratulations.'
'Thanks – it was a great first tri for me.'
'Thanks again for organising such a great event. It must
be one of the
most beautiful triathlons out there with an incredible run and
scenic
(if hilly) bike ride. I thought the marshalls were brilliant -
I'm not
sure how you convinced so many to get out of bed at that time
on a
Sunday morning'

Swim (1500m):
Set in a spring fed and tree lined private lake,
the swim will start in the water under the chequered bunting.
The route is anti-clockwise. After 750m you will turn around the
marker buoy (which is near the far end of the lake) to swim for
another 750m back to the starting point (with the islands always
on your left). You will exit onto the slippery grass bank and
proceed to the transition area along a footpath.
Bike (40km):
As you exit the transition area you will follow a private
drive for approx. 1km (taking caution as you ride over a series
of ramps). The route is sign-posted and marshalled along the way.
The scenic country lanes will take you to Chipperfield and back.
The terrain is very challenging and will include the infamous
Batchworth Heath Hill at around the 32km mark! Extreme caution
is required since this is not a closed road and you will be sharing
the route with the general public. You must expect some potholes,
psycho-drivers (and occasionally horses!) and be prepared to slow
down or brake accordingly. You must obey the highway code at all
times.

Run (10km):
After a scenic but challenging bike route you can look
foward to run on a much more even terrain. Starting from the transition
area you will be completing two 5km laps, totally within the private
grounds. You will be pounding on a mixture of well-maintained
grassland and tarmac driveways, circling the lakes and sports
fields (see satellite overview below). There will be 2 drink stations
to help you hydrate en route.

Run course: 1 lap - 5km
